Columbia has designed academic programs that prepare students to excel as professionals in the arts, media, and communications.

Equally important, the LAS Core Curriculum provides students with the breadth and depth that are the hallmarks of a truly educated person. These two elements—the core curriculum and a specialized major—enable students to thrive in a world of challenges and opportunities that are as yet unforeseen.

As students complete their course work, they compile a body of work that constitutes a record of their artistic and intellectual development. Students are encouraged to consciously connect their academic achievements with their artistic endeavors and to reflect on their development.
