3. Graduate Arts Entrepreneurship & Small Business Management Concentration at Columbia College Chicago
Prepares students, in the cultural and arts industries, to establish and grow arts-based businesses or become self-employed as an artist. This is where the worlds of arts, culture and the creatives collide with the worlds of business and economic values. What makes a compelling case is the economic aspects of these industries.
Students look at everything through an economic lens. Students determine the suitability of starting and running a business of their choice; measure their expectations with the practical aspects of running a business; formulate a step-by-step approach for conceiving, executing and launching a business venture; and develop skills in finance, employee relations and marketing.
Our objectives of the Arts Entrepreneurship & Small Business Management Concentration include:
- Develop an understanding of the art form involved.
- Acquire knowledge germane to starting and growing a business.
- Acquire skill sets and techniques in the analysis of business situations, and creating strategic business plans.
- Stimulate entrepreneurial drive and persistence.
- Reverse the risk-averse bias of analytical methods.
- Develop empathy and support for the unique needs of Entrepreneurs.
- Develop an understanding of the entrepreneurial psyche and lifestyle.
- Develop a sense of alignment of artistic and business goals.
- Tolerate ambiguity, chaos, and uncertainty.
