Cody Scheppers - AEMM Graduate – Management Consultant for Artists
Cody Scheppers is a recent alumnus of Columbia College Chicago’s Arts, Entertainment and Media Management program (May 2012). He currently works as an independent contractor in the field of artist management consulting in which he supports and guides professional artists in all aspects of their strategic career decisions. While his primary experience lies in the artist management realm, he wears many hats with that title as he has secured licensing for clients, booked and promoted shows, and has experience in marketing on multiple platforms. Cody articulates the importance of networking and real-world experience in paving the way for a successful career in the arts industry.
How did your
experience in Columbia’s AEMM department prepare you for your career?
Being a student in the AEMM department has helped me further my career in the music industry on multiple levels. Given the community of artists, managers, and entrepreneurs, the AEMM department has allowed me to be a part of this community and create relationships that have helped take myself to a level that is beyond just being a student. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience from my time at Columbia because it allowed me to get real industry experience, but still remain under the safety net of Columbia.
Any advice for current students?
one thing that every incoming or current student needs to understand is that
you can graduate with a 4.0, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll find

What are some of Columbia’s strengths?
As I mentioned before, the biggest strength of Columbia is that it gives students a network of individuals that share the same passion as you. It also provides a safety net for you to start reaching out to industry professionals while working on various projects throughout the semester.
