Linocut Relief Printing
Mondays, 6-9pm
September 8 - November 10, 2008

This class is designed to give participants an introduction into the world of relief printing.  Participants will learn the basics of this process by first working on black and white images prepared by removing the negative areas of the block or the white space, leaving the key image or black space as a relief. The surface of the block is then rolled in ink and printed by hand or using a press. Students will then work in color by using multi-block printing and the reduction cut processes.  Participants will also be shown stamping and stenciling as easy alternatives to adding color to prints. This 10 week class is open to students of all skill levels and will be taught by Chicago artist Pete Rangel. Class size is limited to 8 students. The cost is $300 including all materials except for paper and blocks. Open Studio time for the duration of the class is available for a $2 materials fee per visit.

Stone Lithography
Tuesdays, 6-9pm
September 9 - November 11, 2008

Chicago artist Richard Repasky will teach this ten week course on the basics of stone lithography. Students will learn the process from start to finish, beginning by grinding their own litho stone, drawing images on the stone, chemically setting the image in the stone and then editioning their prints.  Please note that grinding litho stones does require some strenuous physical activity. This class is open to students of all skill levels and class size is limited to 8 individuals. This class costs $300 including all materials except for paper. Open Studio time for the duration of the class is available for a $2 materials fee per visit.
