China Marks

June 5 - 25, 2011

China Marks was at Anchor Graphics making a series of etchings and photopolymer intaglio prints riffing on her current body of work, which includes one-of-a-kind books and fabric drawings made through the use of cloth, thread, lace, screen-printing, and various other media. She combines figuration and text to create formal structures containing narratives that reflect our present circumstances and how we negotiate issues of power and transcendence. Artifacts of process, her works are objects as well as images, with a strong sculptural presence.

The cat promised to carry Tom Thumb and the devil on the first part of their journey. She said that she knew the countryside and would help them pass through safely. "Won't you get hungry and eat us?" Tom asked her.
