Adult Classes and Workshops
Anchor Graphics holds adult classes and workshops focusing on a variety of printmaking media. Scholarships are available (see bellow) and 15% discounts are given to all Columbia College students, faculty, staff and alumni. Also, Anchor has been approved by the Illinois State Board of Education as a Professional Development Provider and all class and workshops may be used towards CEU's and CPDU's. Upcoming courses are listed below.
A $25 deposit is required to register for all classes and workshops.
Mezzotint
Mondays, 6 - 9pm
September 14 - November 23, 2009
No class on Columbus Day, October 12
Learn the exciting process of mezzotint with Chicago artist, Connie Wolfe. Mezzotint is a process that can create very velvety, tonal prints which can achieve photographic qualities. This class will teach you the technique of preparing the mezzotint surface on copper plates. Once prepared, burnishing and scraping your image onto the plate and printing techniques in both black and white and color will be covered. Connie will also teach students about paper preparation, registration, editioning, and signing your prints. The last night of class, students will exchange prints with each other so that everybody will have a portfolio of mezzotints to add to their collection. This class is open to students of all skill levels and class size is limited to 8 individuals. This class costs $300
including all materials except for paper and plates. Open Studio time for the
duration of the class is available for a $2 materials fee per visit.
Stone Lithography
Tuesdays, 6 - 9pm
September 15 - November 17, 2009
Chicago artist Richard Repasky will teach this 10-week course on the basics of stone lithography. Students will learn the process from start to finish, beginning by grinding their own litho stone, drawing images on the stone, chemically setting the image in the stone and then editioning their prints. Please note that grinding litho stones does require some physical activity. This class is open to students of all skill levels and class size is limited to 8 individuals. This class costs $300 including all materials except for paper. Open Studio time for the duration of the class is available for a $2 materials fee per visit.
Etching
Wednesdays, 6 - 9pm
September 16 - November 18, 2009
For centuries artists have been making marks on copper to create fine art prints. Come learn this process from Anchor Graphics' Master Printer, Chris Flynn. He will instruct students on the various aspects of this wonderful medium including preparing plates, using hard and soft grounds, aquatints, step biting, proofing, editioning, and registering multiple plates. This 10 week class is open to students of all skill levels. Class size is limited to 8 students. The cost is $300 including all materials except for paper and plates. Open Studio time for the duration of the class is available for a $2 materials fee per visit.
Scholarships:
Anchor Graphics is now offering scholarships to all of its classes and workshops. Scholarships will cover full tuition, however students will still be required to supply their own plates and paper. If you would like to apply for a scholarship please email us a brief statement describing why you would like to take a particular class/workshop, why you would like to receive a scholarship, and any previous art/printmaking experience.
