September 19 - November 21, 2009
Students will learn intaglio techniques and complete a variety of prints from copper and plastic plates. Focus will be on the expressive and versatile dry point, hard ground, and aquatint techniques. The instructor will emphasize proofing, revising, and reworking the plate in order to achieve naturalistic detail, a balance of tones and textures, and expressive mark making. Combining plates to make a multiple-color print, with a wide array of colors and textures will also be demonstrated. Students should bring several 7”x 5” black and white images, which can be photographs or drawings, on the first day of class. This class is free and open to high school students of all skill levels. Class size is limited to 10 students. Attendance at all sessions is required. This class will be taught by Chicago artist Elke Claus.
