There are four installation spaces located on the 8th floor in the north and south corridors which are available for checkout. Current Art + Design students and faculty may reserve a space by visiting the A+D Computer Lab Tech Staff office, located on the 9th floor in Room 900B. Users must present a valid Campus Card to make a reservation. Reservations may be requested once per semester for up to one week. Each installation space measures roughly 12’ x 7’ and has tackable Homasote walls, a hanging grid, adjustable lighting, and a roll-down lockable gate.

The student or faculty member who checks out the space is responsible for returning the installation space to it’s original condition by the end of the reservation.  Materials not removed in a timely manner may be discarded by the next person on the reservation calendar.

Rules for Usage (more info...)

Lab Rules


• No flammables, perishables (food, waste, garbage), live animals or insects.

• Walls may not be painted or otherwise modified.

• Users may borrow a gate key from the A+D Computer Lab Tech Staff office to lock/unlock their space as needed while their installation is on display.

• No alcohol, tobacco, smoking or illegal street drugs.

• You must also adhere to the general safety rules in the Department and general rules of good conduct outlined in the Columbia Student Handbook.

• Columbia College is not responsible for items damaged or removed from the installation space.

• Please report any vandalism, thefts, or mechanical problems with the installation spaces to staff in suite 721- ARt and Design Office or via email @artdesign@colum.edu.

• Report any injuries immediately to staff in the Art and Design office or nearest facility.

• For emergencies, call Security Command at (312) 369-7111 or 911.

Fine Policies (more info...)

Fines are as set forth below:


Users may not permanently alter the wall coverings, floor covering, ceilings, metal gate or electrical systems within the installation spaces. Damage to the space may result in fines to cover repair/replacement to floor and wall coverings and/or equipment inside the spaces. Users who damage the space will receive a minimum fine of $10, plus any additional costs to repair the damage. Users will be unable to check out equipment or purchase supplies from other Art + Design facilities until the fine is paid.
