Students must choose one of the four areas of specialization listed above (Design, Modern and Contemporary Art, Non-Western Art, Photography) and take two additional courses in that area. “Topics in Art History” may also be used, depending on its topic.

In addition to the 48 credit hours of General Studies courses required of all Columbia College students, those majoring in Art History will be required to take an additional 6 credits in General Studies. These courses will be chosen in consultation with the student’s advisor, and will complement the student’s area of concentration within Art History and post-graduation plans.
