Master of Arts in Dance/Movement Therapy & Counseling
The Graduate Dance/Movement Therapy Department at Columbia College
Chicago is designed to develop quality practitioners in the field of
Dance/Movement Therapy & Counseling. Program graduates are prepared
to work as counselors who use dance/movement as a modality for change
and healing. Graduates are able to work both individually and in groups
in a variety of mental health treatment settings including schools,
hospitals, out-patient programs, nursing homes, community centers and
rehabilitation facilities.
Columbia's program in DMT is
currently one of only six programs nationally approved by the American
Dance Therapy Association. Students become R-DMT, Registered
Dance/Movement Therapist, upon graduation. Graduates also may be
eligible to sit for the Illinois State Licensing Exam to become a
Licensed Professional Counselor, L.P.C.
Students entering the
program should have a background in the behavioral sciences and dance.
Columbia College Chicago has an excellent Dance department where
students may continue developing their skills in a variety of dance
forms.
Our faculty members are highly qualified professionals in
their fields of expertise, with extensive training in dance/movement
therapy, counseling and dance.
