Student Profiles
The teaching-learning process is, at its very heart, an interpersonal endeavor. We have held to this understanding in our efforts to build the very finest program for the preparation of child development professionals and have included a host of opportunities for our faculty and students to interact. The following are some of those with whom you will work in the Early Childhood Education Program.
Current Students
Approximately 100 students are enrolled in the Early Childhood Education program as either majors or as special students. The special student group is comprised of individuals in other majors that might bring them in regular contact with children (e.g. Interpreter Training, Dance, Theater, etc.) and parents of young children seeking a greater understanding of the developmental process. The majority of program students are women who are attending school full-time. Students range in age from 18 to over 50, with most students in their early twenties. Early Childhood students come from the entire spectrum of ethnic, racial, and socio-economic backgrounds.
Alumni
The Early Childhood Education program graduated its first class of three students in 1999, just three years after its founding. All three graduates had accepted teaching positions for 1999-2000 in their desired areas before their graduation. Since that time, every graduate certifying through the program has found a teaching position.
