Angela Fowler

Angela Fowler, MA, is a lecturer in the Early Childhood Education program in the Education Department at Columbia College Chicago.

Her experiences in the department include coordinating the undergraduate Teacher Certification and Head Start Bachelor’s of Arts Completion programs, Interim Director of the Education Department’s Early Childhood Education program, and teaching various courses. She teaches course in the Early Childhood Education program and supervises field experiences.

Ms. Fowler received her BS from the University of Illinois and her MA from Concordia University Chicago, where she is currently working on her PhD in Early Childhood Educational Leadership.

Prior to her work in higher education, her experiences include Administrator of Child and Youth Programs for the Navy at Great Lakes Naval Base, Illinois, and teaching in both the public and private sectors in grades Pre-K through third. She holds both Early Childhood and Elementary teaching certificates.

Her research interests include constructivist teacher preparation, Head Start Teacher preparation, parent engagement, and technology that supports constructivist teaching. She developed a Reggio Emilia-inspired parent engagement program for the Parent Information and Resource Center (PIRC) Federal Grant. This program is currently being used for the professional development of early childhood teachers in Chicago Public Schools.

Ms. Fowler is the co-creator of the Integrated Learning Assessment System Application, an authentic assessment application for the iPad that is scheduled to be released in the summer of 2013. She is currently writing a series of books about how technology supports documentation and authentic assessment. The first book’s working title is, Make Learning Visible with the childFolio System. This book is scheduled to be published in the summer of 2013.

Ms. Fowler is a member of the World Forum Foundation’s Working Group on Children’s Rights and a member of many early childhood professional organizations. She has presented on a multitude of topics related to early education, consults on early education issues, has served on National Head Start panels, and does professional development for the Chicago Public Schools.
