Larissa Mulholland

Larissa Mulholland, MEd, is Senior Lecturer and Director of the Early Childhood Education program in the Education Department at Columbia College Chicago.

Ms. Mulholland received her BA (with honors) in Sociology from the University of Chicago, and her MEd in Early Childhood Education and Teacher Certification from the Erikson Institute in Chicago.

Ms. Mulholland has been involved in different areas of education for more than 20 years. Her professional experiences range from classroom teaching to mentoring and supervising teachers; developing social studies, science and language arts primary curriculum and assessment; teacher preparation; early childhood education curriculum design; and coordinating assessment for Columbia’s Education Department.

Ms. Mulholland’s areas of interest include culturally responsive, anti-bias early childhood education; social studies and the learning community; pre-service teachers’ dispositions; and building relationships between teachers and family. She is also interested in how teacher preparation promotes reflective, culturally sensitive practice. In addition, she has consulted with child care programs in the Chicago area and presented on topics such as sensory integration and the young child, promoting relationships with families, and using the Reggio Emilia Approach in teacher preparation.
