Emergent Curriculum: Building on Children's Interests and Pursuits
The Early Childhood Education program at Columbia College Chicago invites you to participate in ongoing dialogue while looking at and interpreting children's work and experiences in order to extend and connect to more complex/deeper learning experiences.
Learning based on children's interests and pursuits is a challenge for educators within the current climate of curriculum mandates. However, learning that is built on children's (and teachers') interests and pursuits can become more critical and complex for both children and educators as both become more invested, engaged, reflective, and communicative. Participants will work in a collaborative atmosphere to study children's work and organize experiences to extend and provoke deeper learning.
