Faculty Members’ Departmental and College Services
All full-time faculty members have participated in four departmental faculty search committees within the last five years. In addition, during that time period full-time faculty members served on departmental tenure-track committees for four of its faculty members: one of whom was granted tenure, another of whom retired before applying for tenure, a third who was not continued in the tenure-track position, and a fourth who is currently in her second year as a tenure-track faculty member. Within the department, faculty members have also participated in departmental committees.
In addition to committee service within the department, full-time faculty members have contributed to the College with service on many college-wide committees over the last five years. These have included the following committees or councils:
* Faculty Evaluation,
* Faculty Handbook Committee,
* Student Affairs
* Teaching and Learning
* Faculty Development Awards
* Manifest
* Graduate Policy Council
* Chairs’ Council
* Columbia College Council
* Dean’s Council
Faculty members have also served on search committees outside the department. Such service has included service on search committees seeking the associate provost, a Graduate School dean, a dean for the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and faculty members in other departments.
Faculty Members’ Public and Professional Service Contributions
Faculty members have been active citizens, with activities ranging from working to assist individuals to heading up major organizations. Such activities have included:
* Providing interpretation services and assistance to a Spanish-speaking immigrant
* Volunteering for a non-profit organization’s efforts to fundraise
* Serving as a member of a Board of Directors for a state-wide mental health organization
* Volunteering as education therapist in a VA hospital
* Chairing the Board of Education of a church
* Serving as the vice-chair of the American Legion Auxiliary National Legislative committee
* Serving as secretary for the Illinois Association of Colleges of Teacher Education
* Working with K-12 school principals in implementing teaching evaluation methods
* Assisting faculty at another college in setting up a bilingual teacher education program
* Serving on the nominating committee for the Kohl McCormick Early Childhood Teaching Awards
* Chairing a state program folio review committee
* Participating in Principal for Day Program with the Chicago Public Schools
* Serving as a team member for teacher education unit reaccreditation visits in Illinois
* Completing of the "Art of Leadership Certificate Program" at the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management
* Serving as Math Consultant for the Center for Development & Learning, Covington, Louisiana
* Providing service as Program Evaluator for Beginning Teacher Induction Program, Pendergast School District, Phoenix, Arizona
* Serving as Teacher Education Consultant with the University of Illinois at Chicago’s College of Education to help develop assessment tools for their teacher education programs
* Attending NCATE-related training update to continue eligibility to serve on Illinois State Board of Education Teacher Program Approval Review Teams.
* Serving on the Bias Review Committee for the Illinois Certification Testing System
* Volunteering at the NAEA Conference, Chicago, 2006
* Serving as Committee Organizer for Conference Workshops, IAEA Conference, 2006.
* Serving as NAEA/IAEA Student Chapter Advisor, 2005 to present
* Serving as TAPS member of the Art Institute
* Entered into Technology in the Early Childhood Classroom research agenda in collaboration with the Interactive Multimedia Program, University of Chicago Laboratory School; Dr. Alan Kay, Kim Rose, and Viewpoints Research
