Amanda Snyder

First Year Writing

Amanda E. Snyder has been a Chicago freelance writer for more than six years. Her writing has appeared on Metromix.com, Examiner.com, WBEZ-FM's Eight Forty-Eight, in No Touching Magazine, Red Eye, Pigeon, Hair Trigger 22 and elsewhere. She is a co-founder and a former performer  at the monthly reading series RUI: Reading Under the Influence, and has performed her writing at the 2nd Story Festival and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. Snyder holds an MFA in creative writing from Columbia College, is a recipient of both the Getz Graduate Award and the Weisman Memorial Scholarship, and has held a residency at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. In addition to teaching in Columbia’s First Year Writing Program, Amanda also teaches ESL at College of DuPage and spent the spring 2009 semester teaching English in southern Brazil and playing the Brazilian martial art of capoeira.
