Jennifer Ailles

Jennifer Ailles received her Ph.D. in English from the University of Rochester (Rochester, NY) and her M.A. in English and Performance Studies from the University of Guelph (Guelph, Ontario). She is a Renaissance and gender studies scholar whose research focuses on the intersections between historical and contemporary culture and how artists and writers adapt or modify elements from the past, especially from fairy tales and the works of Shakespeare, into new works and formats, including film and digital media.  She has particular interests in witchcraft, monarchy, queer theory, and eco-criticism.

Jennifer teaches in the literature program at Columbia College.  Her courses include: “Shakespeare and Cinema,” “Shakespeare’s Tragedies,” “Introduction to Poetry,” “Introduction to Literature,” and “Queer Drama.” Before coming to Columbia, Jennifer taught at Rollins College and Full Sail University, both in Winter Park, Florida.
