Pamela Jackson

Coordinator of Services for First-Year Students

Pamela Jackson, Coordinator of First-Year Services, English DepartmentPamela’s passion for working with under prepared students is what led her to pursue a Masters degree in Adult Education Developmental Studies (with a concentration in Reading) from National Louis University. Prior to coming to Columbia she taught reading course at Prairie State College and volunteered at Literacy Chicago until she was hired there as a full-time instructor.

In her position as Coordinator of Services for First-year Students, Pamela coordinates the English Department’s involvement with the Bridge Program and supervises the Student Advocate Program (both are early intervention programs for struggling students). In her efforts to increase student retention, Pamela interfaces with New Students Programs, the Department of Multi-cultural Affairs, The Conaway Achievement Project, and with the Directors of Writing and Rhetoric and the Writing Center.

Pamela’s scholarship is Literacy and she works with the Director of Literacy in an effort to promote the Literacy Program throughout the college. She teaches College Reading and Writing and Rhetoric courses.
