Tanya Firestone

First Year Writing

Tanya Firestone, a Michigan native, joined Columbia College this fall.  She earned her BA in literature from Miami University, Oxford and continued on with a MA in literature at the University of Dayton.  Her teaching experiences include inner-city work with developing readers from young students to struggling adults heading back for their degrees.  Holding both a concentration in Education and Literature at the Masters level, Tanya has strived to bring her classes to life.  Offering more than a writing course, Tanya takes herself seriously as a practical scholar and melds learned knowledge with worldly experiences.  She has published a short work of fiction and served as a judge for First-year writing program entry with the NCTE.   “Just as much as the content that is being delivered, it is the example I set for students to follow that makes a class unique and prompts them to move forward with their dreams.”
