Student Advocate Services, in existences since 2005, provides support and referral information to first-year students in beginning English classes.

Trained student advocates work closely with students to resolve problems encountered as they transition into college.

Within a nurturing environment, advocates are able to contribute to the students' positive college experience with the goal of improving student performance and retention.

Student Advocate Services is a joint effort between The First-Year Writing in the English Department and Student Affairs at Columbia College Chicago.  This student retention program provides:

  • Confidential Assistance
  • Listening Ears
  • Referrals to other campus services:
    • Counseling
    • Jobs
    • Tutoring
    • Additional support
    • All other student resources
Students can contact SAS by calling, emailing, stopping by during office hours, or using our handy online form.  Students may also be referred by a concerned instructor who will provide the student's name and contact information to SAS who will it turn make contact with the student.

If you have questions concerning the program you may contact SAS directly, or Pamela Jackson at ext. 8230.
