SIELI Housing information

Classes begin Monday, June 1, 2009 and classes end Friday, July 24, 2009. Plan to arrive in Chicago no later than Sunday, May 31, 2009.

All classes are held during the day and meet for a total of 26 hours per week; Monday through Thursday, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. On Fridays, SIELI students schedule two hours for tutoring and individual instruction time with ESL Specialists in the Columbia College Writing Center.

The SIELI curriculum includes participation in several cultural events and field trips in Chicago area communities. There are three mandatory Saturday curricular excursions. The dates for those events are:

Saturday, June 13
Saturday, June 27
Saturday, July 11

Additionally, weekly events are planned and facilitated by Student Mentors. SIELI students are encouraged to take advantage of these social opportunities and to explore the many cultural and community events available on the Columbia campus and in the city of Chicago.

Applications for the Summer Intensive English Language Institute must be received by April 15, 2009. If you need to obtain or transfer a student visa (I-20), you should complete your appplication no later than April 1, 2009.
