We asked fall 2005 New Millennium Studies students what future NMS students needed to know in order to get the most out of the course. These are some of their responses.

You need not know who you are, but you must be willing to seek.
You need not know why you're here, but you must be willing to learn.
This course is an adventure in self, so raise sails and have happy travels.

Don't be afraid to think and change your outlook on yourself and the world. It's a great way to start off your new life at school.

This class is a template for discovery.

New Millennium Studies in unlike any class I've been in before. There aren't quizzes or worksheets over the reading or watching the assignments. But this doesn't mean you don't have to do the homework. Not only do you have to read a book, but you have to find a way to relate to it and discuss it in class.

You have to be willing to participate fully, to articulate your ideas and principles,  your thoughts.

You need to be respectful of everyone else, acknowledge their thoughts and ideas,  but at the same time challenge them.

In this class, you get a chance to say "Why?" and "How?" in a way that is interesting to you.

It's an eye-opening course, so keep your eyes open.

You want to come ready to engage in conversation with other people
who are open to sharing their ideas.

The best part of the course is getting to see your peers' work and talk about the creative process.
