Common texts in various media serve as the foundation for considering the guiding questions of each unit. These texts provide models—albeit imperfect, tentative, and provisional ones—of the ways authors and artists have grappled with these crucial issues. Students deepen their own understanding of these themes by responding to them in a variety of ways over the course of the semester.
