Checklist: AEMM
The minimum requirements for admission include an undergraduate college degree with a Grade Point Average of 3.0 or better (on a scale with a maximum of 4.0), relevant experience in a professional field, and/or equivalent college practice and understanding.
All entering AEMM graduate students are required to
successfully complete (with a grade of B or better) a fundamentals/principles
of accounting course before they begin the program. This undergraduate course includes the ability to complete the accounting cycle, prepare financial statements, and have an understanding of how accounting can be utilized as a decision making tool. Applicants who wish to attempt to test out of this prerequisite will be required to pay a fee of $50 to take a written examination. This closed-book/closed-note examination will be given at Columbia College Chicago on Saturday April 17, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Students applying without the accounting prerequisite will receive a Conditional Acceptance into the AEMM
program and must state in their essay how they intend to satisfactorily
complete the requirement before enrolling in graduate classes.
When applying to Arts, Entertainment & Media Management
as a domestic student, you will need to submit the following no later than
January 15, 2010:
- Completed online application, with application fee
- A Self-Assessment essay of no more than 600 words that discusses:
- Your specific arts, entertainment or media field of interest; (concisely stated in the first line of the essay)
- Your career goals
- Reasons for studying at the graduate level
- Specific examples from your studies and professional experience that
demonstrate your level of understanding of the arts, entertainment or
media field in which you want to manage (if not clear from your resume)
- Examples of leadership potential, interpersonal and communication skills, analytical and reasoning capabilities, and personal qualities such as maturity, judgment, and individual initiative (if not clear from your resume)
- Knowledge and experience with electronic spreadsheet and relational database software programs; (students may be required to complete a course in these areas)
- How you intend to complete the accounting course prerequisite if you have not taken a fundamentals/principles of accounting course for which you earned a B or better grade
- Two letters of recommendation
- Resume
- One copy of all official transcripts from any and all colleges/universities attended
In rare cases, a phone interview may be required during the admission process. If necessary, the department will contact the student directly regarding the interview.

Please note that it usually takes a minimum of eight to ten weeks after the deadline passes to receive an admissions decision. Applicants are notified of the decision by mail.
