Arts, Entertainment & Media Management

APPLICATION DEADLINE: January 15, 2010

The Arts, Entertainment and Media Management (AEMM) graduate program aims to transform lives by developing emerging leaders in the arts, entertainment and media fields. In these dynamic, wide-ranging fields, successful arts management is critical to the continued vitality of creative enterprises, cultural endeavors, and media and arts organizations. With its graduates accomplishing professional work over the domestic and global spectrum, the program provides form and possibility to what students aspire to do.

To achieve this, the program seeks students with applicable ability, knowledge, passion and experience who possess a mature commitment to managing artists and organizations that enrich the quality of life across cultures and society.

Program Outline:

The AEMM graduate program offers a Master of Arts Management degree. (48 credit hours) The program of study is designed to prepare students with the skills to successfully manage or own arts-related commercial or not-for-profit organizations. The curriculum reflects the professional experiences of industry leaders, prospective employers and faculty–working artists/performers and successful managers of leading arts, entertainment and media organizations. The core curriculum in business and arts management provides students with a foundation for career choices in the live and performing arts, media, recorded music business, and the visual arts.

Along with the essential study of financial, legal, marketing and organizational concepts in these fields, the program offers students flexibility in choosing elective courses tailored to their specialty interests. The subjects of these electives involve skills needed to manage digital media enterprises, traditional media businesses, record labels, talent agencies, live entertainment venues, performing arts companies, museums, art galleries, and community-based youth arts organizations. Arts entrepreneurs who wish to start businesses are able to select courses that help conceive and launch such ventures. Thus working closely with faculty, students learn to combine business acumen and aesthetic sensibilities as they investigate, analyze and prepare for these fast-changing fields.
