Presentations from students, faculty and alumni on the conference topic of Research and Innovation in Dance/Movement Therapy were everywhere!
Scholarship award winners from the Research Celebration presnted their poster boards at the poster session.

Emma Barton - An evaluation of a dance/movement and yoga therapy program with participants experiencing severe mental illness.

Amanda Mitchell - The relationship between voice and movement qualities in dance/movement therapy with sexual assault survivors.

Sabrina Washington - A quasi-experimental study exploring the impact of dance/movement therapy on student time-out rates at a therapeutic day school.

As part of his thesis research, student Jeff Gilbert moderated the panel discussion Trudi Schoop: Passing On Her Legacy, featuring Cynthia Berrol, Sharon Chaiklin, Joan Chodorow, Susan D. Imus and Therese Young.
Stacey Hurst Chaired the Certification Board and lead efforts to have Registry and Board Certfication credentials for Dance/Movement Therapists.

At the end of the concert, Chair Susan Imus announced our scholarship award winners and departmental recognition.
Congratulations to Danielle Laurion, recipient of the JGS Scholarship for continuing MA students
and to Kate Sopoci, recipient of the Warren Lamb Scholarship for our GLCMA students!

The event allowed for new students, prospective students, faculty and staff to mingle and
discuss the scope and depth of the researchers' thesis topics.
to send a chosen thesis student to present their research at the American Dance Therapy Association annual conference, held this year in Portland, OR, October 8 – 11, 2009.
This year, Sabrina Washington and Emma Barton were chosen to split the award. In addition to the department’s scholarship, Columbia College Chicago Provost and Senior Vice President Steven Kapelke honored our students with a second scholarship award given to Amanda Mitchell.

Faculty recently attended a three day workshop designed to encourage and foster writing and publishing.
Three international consultants, published professionals in the field of research,
presented practical techniques to move attendees' ideas into publishable text.
