Thursday Drop In Hours


Starting November 5, 2009, the Graduate Admissions Office will host Drop In Hours every Thursday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Stop by to ask admissions staff about the programs we offer and the application process. No appointment necessary!

Need another reason to come downtown on a Thursday night? The Columbia College Chicago event calendar is packed with film screenings, lectures, exhibits, and concerts. So come down to the Graduate Admissions Office between 4 PM and 7 PM to get your questions answered by our staff, then stay on campus to find out what life is like here at Columbia College Chicago.

Cultural Studies Colloquium Series — Lecture by Dr. Jeffrey T. Nealon
“The Song Remains the Same: On the Post-Postmodern Economics of Classic Rock”

The Cultural Studies Colloquium at Columbia College Chicago is a series of colloquia featuring local, national and international contemporary Cultural Studies scholars. Dr. Jeffrey T. Nealon is Liberal Arts Research Professor in the English Department at Penn State University. He has published widely on contemporary cultural theory, and is author of Double Reading: Postmodernism after Deconstruction (Cornell, 1993), Alterity Politics: Ethics and Performative Subjectivity (Duke, 1998), The Theory Toolbox (with Susan Searls Giroux, Rowman & Littlefield, 2003), as well as co-editor of Rethinking the Frankfurt School (SUNY, 2002). His latest book is and Foucault Beyond Foucault: Power and Its Intensifications since 1984 (Stanford, 2008).

The Chicago Jazz Ensemble, with Special Guests David Sanchez and Steve Wilson

Honoring 1959: The Music of John Coltrane, Ornette Coleman and Miles Davis
Two of today’s most creative young saxophonists, David Sanchez and Steve Wilson, join The Chicago Jazz Ensemble in celebrating the 50th anniversary of Coltrane’s “Giant Steps,” Coleman’s “The Shape of Jazz to Come,” and Davis’ “Kind of Blue.”  In 1959, these extraordinary innovators released three of the most ground-breaking, adventurous and influential recordings in Jazz history. Don’t miss this stellar tribute as Mr. Faddis takes the ensemble and special guests on an anniversary journey through the music that continues to shape the sound of today’s jazz.
