Cadence Wynter
Cadence Wynter, PhD, is
Associate Professor in the Department of Humanities, History, and Social
Sciences at Columbia College Chicago.
Dr. Wynter received her doctorate in History from the University of Illinois,
Chicago. She also received a BA in Social Sciences from The Open University,
and an MEd in Educational Studies from Manchester University, England. Born in Jamaica, Dr. Wynter taught in high schools and colleges and worked as a
college education counselor in England before moving to the United States. She
joined the Columbia College faculty in 1996 and teaches courses in Caribbean,
African American, and Latin American history.
Dr. Wynter’s research spans the African Diaspora and focuses on migration
studies, labor history, oral history, and women's studies. She is working on a
book-length manuscript on the experience of African Caribbean Girls and Women
in the British Education System from 1950 through 1990.
