Language Placement Exam

Interested in taking a Foreign Language Class?

You need to take an exam through the HHSS Department. Students who would like to begin study in French, Spanish or Italian for the first time at Columbia will be required to take an online placement exam.  The placement exam will ensure that you are placed at the appropriate course level. If you hope to take a foreign language course here’s what you need to do:

о Sign Into Your Oasis account http://oasis.colum.edu/ics/

о Click on the Students tab at the top of the page.

о Find the Language Placement Test in the section on the right titled Online Forms and select the foreign language you wish to study. (This only applies to French, Spanish or Italian language courses; not others.)

о Complete the Placement Exam

о Within 3 BUSINESS DAYS your exam will be graded, your scores will be entered into your Oasis account, you will be notified of your placement, and you will be eligible to take the appropriate level course.
