Cultural Studies Minor
The Minor in Cultural Studies gives students the conceptual tools they need to add depth and diversity to work they do in their majors. As part of an interdisciplinary field that emphasizes research and critical thinking, Cultural Studies students analyze diverse art, media and other cultural products found in contemporary and everyday life. The minor simultaneously enriches students¹ understanding of the complexity of culture and nudges them toward more substantive and critical engagements with their disciplines. As students hone their technical skills in their primary fields of study, the minor in Cultural Studies allows them to explore the social, economic, political and historical contexts that inform their work and shape their world.
Many students do not wish to major in Cultural Studies, but appreciate the benefits of acquiring the knowledge and skills to understand and question how politics, society, and culture interconnect, how representation and subjectivity operate in everyday life, and how art and media emerge from specific socio-historical contexts. As Cultural Studies minors, these students can master the approaches and methods that will underpin all their future intellectual and creative activities.
