Media Equipment Checkout

Welcome to the Television Department Equipment Center and Interdisciplinary Arts Department.  The rules and policies are important so that we may serve you and facilitate the success of your projects.  Only students on the reservation list for a particular piece of equipment will be allowed to reserve that equipment.  All equipment usage is limited to current class projects and currently enrolled students.  Non-course related projects are NOT allowed.

Hours of Operation:
Monday - Thursday    9 am - 9:30 pm
Friday    & Saturday       9 am - 4:30 pm

EDITING AND COMPUTER FACILITY PROCEDURES:
You must check in with the equipment center before your editing, dubbing, or computer time.
If you fail to check in, we will assume that you are not here and the time you had reserved may be given away.
If you arrive 15 minutes late for your reserved time, you may lose that time.
 Any student who uses equipment without signing in with the equipment center may be ejected from the facility.

NO EATING, DRINKING, SMOKING is permitted in any of the editing suites, computer labs, or classrooms, at any time.  If a student is caught doing so, they will be asked to leave their current session.  Repeat offenders will loss their privileges.

DO NOT prop any doors open, this includes editing suites, computer labs, and classrooms.  This will assist in the protection of your fellow students, their personal belongings, and the equipment.  A work-aid will be happy to let you into the room in the event you have to leave temporarily.  If you prop any door open, you will lose your privileges.  The Interdisciplinary Arts and Television Department are not liable for your tapes, books, purses, backpacks or other personal items left in the labs, suites, or classrooms.

BREAKING THE RULES
Failing to return equipment on time will result in loss of all departmental privileges for a period of 1 week.  This includes all equipment, computer lab, and editing suites.  Further infractions will result in loss of reservation privileges for the remainder of the semester.

EQUIPMENT RESERVATION
You may reserve equipment for only one period of time per week. 
Only one student can reserve the equipment per checkout period.
You must present a validated current semester Columbia College ID to reserve and checkout the equipment.  NO equipment will be issued without a current semester equipment card.
All equipment and editing reservation sheets for the next week will be in the reservation book on the prior Wednesdays.  Sign up times will alternate on odd and even weeks of class. 
ODD WEEKS (1,3,5,etc.) sign up begins Wednesday at 9:00 am in person and 10:00 am by phone
EVEN WEEKS (2,4,6,etc.) sign up will be Wednesday at 5:00 pm in person or 6:00 pm by phone.

COMPUTER LAB & EDITING RESERVATIONS
You may reserve only 4 hours per week on the 7th and 14th floor.

AFTER YOU HAVE USED YOUR 4 HOURS, YOU MAY USE WALK ON TIME
Walk on time is limited to 4-hour increments but can be used as often as is available.  You must check with the equipment center and use whatever unit is available at the time.

CAMERA, LIGHTS & SOUND EQUIPMENT CHECKOUT-14th floor
Plan enough time to make sure all the equipment is in the case and that the equipment is working before you leave the equipment center. You are responsible for the equipment.  Make sure that everything you signed for is in the case before you leave.
Equipment Pickup:  Mon. – Thurs., before 9:00 pm, Fri. & Sat., before 4 pm

Equipment Return: Mon.–Thurs., before 5:30 pm, Fri. & Sat., before 3:00 pm
When returning equipment, students must be present for check in.  Failing to return equipment on time will result in loss of all departmental privileges for a period of 1 week.  This includes all equipment and editing suites.  Further infractions will result in loss of reservation privileges for the remainder of the semester.

You are responsible for the condition and return of all equipment signed out.  If the equipment is misused, broken, stolen or lost, YOU, the student who signed the equipment contract, are liable for all replacement and/or repair costs. You are financially responsible. When returning equipment, students must be present for check in.

If there is a problem with the equipment contact a T.A. or the manager on duty.  Do not attempt to fix it yourself. 




LAPTOP COMPUTER RESERVE & CHECKOUT – 7th floor
Plan enough time to make sure all the equipment is in the case and that the equipment is working before you leave the equipment center. You are responsible for the equipment.  Make sure that everything you signed for is in the case before you leave.

THESIS AND SCULPTURAL MEDIA EQUIPMENT:
Equipment reservation, i.e. projectors, DVD players, surround sound systems, will be by special permission from the MFA Arts & Media Program Director and will be done during your class.  This equipment will be checked out to you for use in a specific room on-campus only.  The reservations will be posted in a reservation book at the 7th floor equipment center.  Checkout will be by special arrangements with the Interdisciplinary Arts work-aides and the 7th floor computer staff.
