Melissa Jay Craig has been teaching in the Interdisciplinary Book and Paper Arts MFA degree program since 1996.  She holds an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she was a Merit Scholar and an Anna Louise Raymond Fellow.  Melissa has taught at Artists’ Book Works, the Newberry Library, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Loyola University, Pyramid Atlantic and in many other schools and art centers around the country.
Melissa’s installations, handmade paper book works and sculptures have been exhibited internationally.  Her work can be viewed in many public collections, including: the Joan Flasch Collection at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Gund Library at the Cleveland Institute of Art, the Skillman Library Rare Books Collection at Lafayette University, and the Jaffe Collection at Florida Atlantic University.
Melissa has been awarded numerous residencies, including several consecutive residencies at the Ragdale Foundation.  She was the recipient of the 2002 Columbia College Excellence in Teaching Award, a 2003 Illinois Arts Council Finalist’s Grant for Artists’ Books, and she was a Fellow of the Columbia College Center for Teaching Excellence from 2002-2004.  Melissa received a Columbia College Faculty Development Grant in 2006, and was recently awarded the 2007 Faurest Fellowship for Art Educators by the Mary Anderson Center for the Arts, and a 2008 full fellowship residency at The Vermont Studio Center.
