Junior Lands ABC News Paid Internship

A Columbia College junior landed a broadcast internship this fall that many would drool over. Her paid internship, a rarity in broadcast journalism, is with the Chicago bureau of ABC News, which produces and edits shows such as Good Morning America, ABC World News and weekend news programs.

Two professors from Columbia College Chicago’s journalism department shared a vision – a vision of students using a medium of the future to cover and publish neglected news in Chicago. 

Full-time faculty members Barb Iverson and Suzanne McBride set out on the daunting task of obtaining a $12,000 J-Lab grant in spring 2006 to create a web site dedicated to community coverage.

Journalism Senior Gets Column in Sun-Times

If anyone had asked me six months ago what I was doing after graduation, I would depressingly tell them I had no idea, just like so many of my peers.

But through a stroke of good luck and perseverance, I can now say that I’m going to have a weekly column at the Chicago Sun-Times, and couldn’t be happier about it.
