Nyssa Perkins

NYSSA PERKINS, REPORTER
METRO MINUTES

Nyssa Perkins, born in Chicago, was raised in a single-parent home in the Quad-Cities area located between Iowa and Illinois. As a small child she would make her family laugh by dancing and imitating everything she observed.
Growing up, she always knew she would become a writer because she hid countless diaries under her bed. Her diaries reflect that she finds value in everyone.  She relishes meeting people of different classes and nationalities.  She loves playing the guitar and practicing martial arts.  She calls the Apostolic Church of God on Chicago’s South Side  her “home.”
One of Nyssa’s memorable experiences was writing a story about the famous architect Antoine Predock, who received the 2006 Gold Medal from the American Institute of Architects.  Other treasured experiences were meeting mentor and BET correspondent Jeff Johnson, and doing a follow up story about the rally against the Illegal Immigration Bill.
A broadcast journalism major, Nyssa's goal is to become a talk show host and to  rebuild homes in impoverished communities.
