Steven Nichols

Since I was 15, I knew I’d be involved in journalism. After a couple seasons of playing basketball at Crystal Lake South High School, I returned to my hometown of Chicago to attend Columbia College in pursuit of a journalism degree.

In the past three years at Columbia, I’ve grown as a writer. Since August of 2007, I’ve been a sports correspondent at the Daily Herald. I’ve covered numerous games, from football, girls and boys basketball and wrestling. Currently, I cover baseball/softball and will return to football in August.

Besides the Herald, I’ve interned at Fox News Chicago, helping sports director Corey McPherrin and his team of producers with the evening broadcasts. The best part was knowing that I had a hand in helping the news make air and getting sound bytes from players in the locker room was definitely a rush.

I am also in pursuit of some play-by-play work and I look forward to graduating in December of 2008.
