
| Journalism graduate student Maura Wall is the research
coordinator for Advertising Age, a weekly international marketing
magazine, which is the leading publication in its category. “My
responsibilities include researching and preparing data and statistics
for publicationin the Special Reports section of the book, including
poster inserts and helping reporters gather empirical evidence to
support their conclusions, as well as editorial writing and reporting,”
she said. She continues to freelance write and edit with the Chicago
Tribune’s RedEye, an ethnic international newsmagazine and also
freelances as a non-fiction book editors. She’s interned at both RedEye
and Crain’s Chicago Business. |

| Esteban Montalvo a senior majoring in journalism with a
concentration in magazines, has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship
designated by Cornelia Grumman of the Chicago Tribune, winner in the
Commentary Category of The Chicago Bar Association’s 2006 Herman Kogan
Media Awards.

The
Columbia Chronicle picked up two prestigious awards at the 85th Annual National College Media Convention in St. Louis in late October. In the category of Advertising Awards, the paper won First Place for a display ad by Chris Gallevo, now working as a graphic designer at TimeOut Chicago. Chris was an Art and Design major who worked at The Chronicle. The paper was also one of nine CMA Online Pacemaker Winners for its Web site. That award went to Web masters Chad Kouri and Chuck Sievert, both of the Graphic Design program.
