Employment Opportunities for Summer 2012
The Summer Arts Camp at Columbia College Chicago recruits qualified students from the Columbia community to join the Summer Arts Camp counselor team each summer. The Summer Arts Camp seeks responsible, creative, and motivated students to help inspire and mentor young artists. Ideal candidates must:

Have experience managing and engaging groups of children

Have high energy and be extremely responsible

Demonstrate a passion for the arts

Have loads of patience and a sense of humor
Available Counselor Positions:
Group Counselors are responsible for an assigned group of children throughout the session. Group Counselors greet and assemble their group in the morning, escort campers to activities, participate in classroom activities with their group, assist teachers with classroom projects, supervise camper lunchtime, and dismiss their campers at the end of the day. Hours may vary, but are typically 24-35 hours per week at $11.00 per hour.
Afternoon Counselors begin their day at 11AM and are responsible for preparing and supervising outdoor lunch, assisting in afternoon classes, filling in for absent staff and helping to supervise afternoon dismissal. Some Afternoon Counselors also staff the After Camp program, which is an extended care program that runs from 3:30 – 5:45PM. After Camp is a relaxed and fun environment; activities include supervised outdoor play and small arts and crafts projects. Hours may vary, but are typically 24-35 hours per week at $11.00 per hour.
Eligible applicants must:

Be 20 years of age by June 2012

Be a current Columbia College Chicago student, graduate student, or recent 2012 graduate*

Be available to work from June 11th – July 27th, 2012, Monday through Friday

Not be attending summer school between the hours of 9-4PM (or 11-5:45PM for Afternoon Counselors)

Teachers at The Summer Arts Camp are graduate students or advanced undergrads with prior experience working with children. Formal teaching experience is not required, however, the Summer Arts Camp is searching for applicants who possess creativity, strong leadership skills, and the demonstrated ability to manage projects from start to finish. Teachers are responsible for designing and implementing class curriculum under the supervision of the Camp's Artistic Director and Program Manager. Teachers instruct three classes daily, Monday through Thursday, and prepare a presentation for the showcase on the last day of the program.
Teachers receive a stipend of $4000 for the summer to cover training, attendance at curriculum planning meetings, class preparation and instruction, end of program presentation, and classroom breakdown and cleanup.

Have a written reference from a Columbia College Chicago faculty memberDemonstrate skills and accomplishments in their assigned teaching field
Although applications for all roles will be accepted, The Summer Arts Camp is currently looking to fill the following teaching positions:
Media Arts

Be Film/Video majors or possess a degree in Film/Video

Demonstrate knowledge of the terminology and techniques of basic filmmaking and be able to translate this to a younger audience in a fun and interesting manner

Have cinematography experienceHave experience with Final Cut Pro and be able to edit a final project culminating in the creation of a DVD of camper work for showing at a screening at the end of the session for campers and parents

Be able to create an original production (or adapt an existing one) for presentation at the final showcase
