SI is an interactive peer study group that teaches students how to learn and what to learn in a selected course.
SI is not tutoring, and there is no re-lecturing. SI student leaders who have successfully completed the course facilitate the sessions.
SI sessions are 50 minutes, but you may attend for less time if necessary.
SI participants learn study strategies: note taking, graphic organization, questioning techniques, vocabulary acquisition, and test preparation.
SI sessions are anonymous, voluntary, and free to enrolled students in SI courses.
SI participants generally earn higher grades, improve their self-esteem, and are more comfortable in small groups.
How do I participate in an SI Session?
If you are taking a course that offers SI, it will be announced in class. During the Fall 2009 term, seven courses have SI: Introduction to Audio, Basic Audio Systems, History of Art I, Design Theory I, The French Revolution, Sight-Singing, Musicianship, Ear Training III, and Science of Electronics.
The SI session times and meeting locations are listed on the course's syllabus. Or you can check out our list of SI session times.
Just show up at any SI session to learn more effectively and efficiently. You may attend as frequently as sessions are offered or when you feel the need.
