What is New Student Placement at Columbia College Chicago?

New Student Placement works with incoming Columbia students to administer the COMPASS Placements, in order to ensure that students are placed in the appropriate level mathematics, reading, and writing courses. Advisors use the results of the COMPASS placements to help each student register for the right courses.  For example, the writing placement test may reveal whether a student should enroll in a preparatory English course, or an advanced writing section.   In addition, the Grammar for Journalists (GFJ) Placement is now available in the Learning Studio for journalism majors and minors.

Spring 2012 Placement Sessions

On-Campus Placement (no appointment necessary)

Beginning Tuesday, January 3 through Friday, January 13,  Placement Sessions are Mon. through Fri., starting at 9:30am and 1pm.

Remote Placement for New Students (by appointment only, call 312.369.8130).

Remote placement is available for new students through Wednesday, January 4th.
