Cadence Wynter, Ph. D. received her doctorate in History from the University of Illinois-Chicago. Born in Jamaica, Dr. Wynter holds a B. A. in Social Sciences, and a M. Ed. in Educational Studies from The Open University, and Manchester University, England, respectively. She taught in high schools and colleges and worked as a college education counselor in England before moving to the United States. She joined the Columbia College faculty in 1996 and teaches courses in Caribbean, African-American, and Latin American history. Her research spans the African Diaspora and focuses on migration studies, labor history, oral history, and women's studies. Dr. Wynter is working on a book length manuscript on the experience of African Caribbean Girls and Women in the British Education System, 1950-1990.
