Columbia College Chicago Music Theater Major Wins Major Singing Award

Sean Knight, a 2009 graduate of the Musical Theatre Performance Major at Columbia College Chicago, won first place in the first Musical Theatre Singing competition sponsored by the National Association of Teachers of Singing/Chicago Chapter. The competition, which took place March 13, 2010, at the Music Institute of Chicago, drew more than 100 singers from educational institutions in the Chicago metropolitan area.

Two other Columbia College Musical Theatre students placed among the top ten singers in Division 2: current student Harter Clingman (class of 2011) and alumnus Travis Porchia (class of 2009). Knight and Porchia graduated with B.A. degrees in Musical Theatre Performance; Clingman is a B.F.A. student in the Musical Theatre program. All three are private voice students of Carol Lo Verde at the Columbia College Music Department. The Musical Theatre Performance is offered by the Columbia College Theatre Department working closely with the Music Department.
