Bill Boris is a jazz guitarist and native of Michigan City, Indiana who performs throughout the Chicago area. He has been teaching at the college since 2001. Boris has performed with David “Fat Head” Newman, Bo Diddley, Leslie Gore, Charles Earland, Tony Monaco, Arthur Prysock, Eric Alexander and Irene Reid. He played on the Mike Frost Project CD, Comin’ Straight At You, which was nominated for a Grammy in 2007.
The Bill Boris Group performed at the Elkhart Jazz Festival in 2010 playing original compositions from his debut CD, Hold Back. He performed at the 2011 Chicago Jazz Festival with the group Spiral. He has also performed at the Barbados Jazz Festival, the Kaunas Jazz Festival, Lithuania, the South Shore Jazz Festival, the Madison Isthmus Jazz Festival, the Jazz Showcase, the Green Mill and Catalina’s in Los Angeles.
Boris attended Berklee College of Music and received a B.A. from Notre Dame University. His Columbia ensembles have performed with Joan Osborne, Ivan Neville, Shawn Mullins, Charlie Sexton, Peter Erskine, Christian McBride, Fred Wesley and Bob Mintzer. In 2009, he was a guest ensemble instructor at the Popakademie in Mannheim, Germany.
