This annual competition is open to all graduating photography majors. Each year an image will be selected from student submissions to represent the graduating class on the graduation invitation, commencement banner and all other distribution materials.

The Albert P. Weisman Award was established in 1974. The Award is named for the late Al Weisman, a trustee of the college and one of Chicago's best known and respected communicators. Mr. Weisman was a journalist, publicist, teacher and mentor to many. The Weisman Award is intended to perpetuate his commitment to nurturing interest and excellence in all aspects of communication. The Weisman Award provides funding to a limited number of students in a variety of media who need financial assistance in order to finish a significant project, up to $4000.

Scholarship Information:


The Photography Department offers four Scholarships annually to graduate and undergraduate students. For application instructions, please review the PDF application cover sheet. One application form can be submitted for all four scholarships, and the deadline for all four is on the same date in the Spring semester, usually in the first week of the month of February. (See application form pdf for dates.)

All applicants for Department Scholarships must be enrolled full-time, and have at least one full year of school remaining - i.e. not graduating in the application year.

Stuart and Iris Baum Project Completion Grant
$300 awards*
This award is open to graduate students in Photography for the completion of a specific project.

Linda Levy Scholarship
$400 awards*
This award is open to graduating seniors only who are participating in Industry Night with an intent to pursue a commercial career. A cohesive body of work is required. 

John Mulvany Scholarship
$500 awards*
This award is open to graduate students in Photography and advanced undergraduate Photography Majors.

Pieter Ombregt Scholarship
(2) $750 awards*
This award is open to advanced undergraduate Photography Majors.
This award is in memory of Pieter Ombregt, a Columbia College Photography Major who passed away in a bicycle racing accident in September 2007. pieterombregt.com
