Required Radio Courses:
The core and advanced radio courses are required for all majors. If you have taken courses at another college that you feel qualify for a waiver from a required radio course, you should talk to your faculty advisor.
Radio Electives:
These are radio courses that you may choose from the available course offerings that are not among the required courses.
LAS Requirements:
These are courses in the Liberal Arts and Sciences that are required by Columbia College Chicago for graduation with a Bachelor of Arts degree. You should take Liberal Arts and Sciences courses along with your radio courses as you proceed through the curriculum. Questions about transfer credit for Liberal Arts and Sciences courses should be directed to Rachel Royle in the Advising Center 312-344-7645 or rroyle@colum.edu
College-wide Electives:
These courses give you the opportunity to explore new areas or to expand current interests. College-wide electives may range from additional liberal arts and science classes to courses in another major. This is to encourage you to take courses outside of Radio such as Art, Theater, Photography, Television, etc. You may also use these credits to fulfill a minor area of study for your degree. You should think about what interests you or what areas may enhance your radio work. As an example, many students who want to become on-air talent should think about taking classes in the Theater Department. Students who want to go into the business side of radio may want to take a class in the Management or Marketing Communication Department. You may also take additional radio courses beyond the minimum radio elective requirement. Talk to your faculty advisor if you have questions or need help.
