Erik Zachary Truly a "Jack of All Trades"

At the ripe age of 21, Junior Radio major Erik Zachary is making a lasting impression as an all-around multimedia force by hosting weekend overnights on WKSC, 103.5 FM, appearing on-camera as a host on Akoo Digital Television Network, all the while continuing to perform at concerts, clubs, and events as a live DJ. Erik has also been awarded both the Al Parker Scholarship and the Irv Kupicent Media Arts Scholarship for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Growing up in Bartlett, Illinois, Erik had dreams at an early age of being an on-air personality. For Erik, all came true when he stepped foot into the Radio Department and the abundance of opportunities became clear. Highly motivated and driven to succeed, Erik took advantage of every opportunity thrown his way. Whether it was getting up at 5 a.m. to host a morning show on Columbia's radio station, WCRX, 88.1 FM, or putting in time to volunteer at special events such as the WCRX-FM's "Holly Jolly Trolley" live broadcast, Erik proved to himself that getting the experience at Columbia was second to none. "I can without a doubt say that I wouldn't be where I am had it not been for the Radio Department. It's allowed me to take the skills I've been working on my whole life and polish them to the point that made getting on-air in Chicago at the age of 20 possible. In terms of WCRX-FM, I don't need to explain to anyone twice why WCRX-FM is the BEST college radio station in the country. The experience it offered me was unmatched anywhere else. It truly was the official launch pad for my radio career!"

Obtaining his current position at one of the foremost top 40 stations in the midwest, WKSC, 103.5 FM, was due in large part to the work ethic he displayed as an intern. Working with Assistant Program Director, Music Director, and afternoon host Ryan Gorman (known on-air as "Jordan"), Erik learned all facets of programming as well as tightening his on-air delivery. After proving himself as an intern during both the spring and summer semesters, Erik was hired as a Promotions Assistant and Manager of Streaming Operations for WKSC, 103.5 FM. Erik's performance in those positions led him to pick up additional duties as the weekend overnight on-air personality at WKSC, 103.5 FM.

Along with holding three part-time jobs in the radio industry, going to school full-time, and performing as a live DJ nearly every weekend, Erik was recently chosen to be a VJ/Host for Akoo Entertainment. With tv screens at shopping malls and universities across the country as well as online, Akoo Entertainment has over 46 million viewers per week, offering viewers interactive opportunities in selecting music videos and posing questions to artists. As a VJ/Host Erik's responsible for conducting entertainment segments in-between artist videos.
