WCRX AWARDS
WCRX Radio has earned numerous national and international awards that include 12 Communicators awards, 25 Silver Microphone National awards, 23 awards from Collegiate Broadcasters, Inc., 4 awards from College Media Advisers, and 4 local awards from the March of Dimes Achievement in Radio (AIR) competition. WCRX is also the recipient of the 2008 National Association of Broadcasters Service to America College Radio Award, among the highest public service honors in broadcasting. With the addition of these awards, WCRX Radio has received almost 70 awards during the past six years.
The NABEF Service to America Radio Award
WCRX has been awarded the 2008 Service to America College Radio Award from the National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation. This award recognizes only one non-commercial or commercial tax-exempt college radio station in the country for the totality of its efforts and its commitment to serving the local community. In their announcement, the NABEF stated, “WCRX Radio, Columbia College Chicago, is deeply connected to the students and to the community it serves. From a food drive to benefit the Greater Chicago Food Depository and its Job Outlook ’07 program to award-winning student produced PSAs and original programming, WCRX provides excellent student opportunities and experiences, creating future broadcast leaders.”
The New York Festival Gold Medal Award
WCRX Columbia College, Chicago's Radio Station has received the 2009 Gold World Medal for Best College Radio Station in the country from the New York Festivals Radio Programming category. The international competition recognizes excellence in the radio broadcasting field. Entries are judged by industry professionals from 25 countries around the world. WCRX submitted a 30-minute audio montage of public service announcements and programming that included live presidential election night coverage, the station's multi-platform public service broadcast promoting Green initiatives, and broadcast of the "Holly Jolly Trolley" annual fundraiser for the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
The Communicators Awards
The annual Communicator Awards is an international competition that recognizes outstanding works in the communication field. Entries are judged by industry professionals who look for companies and individuals whose talent exceeds a high standard of excellence and whose work serves as a benchmark for the industry. Entries and winners have come from all 50 states and numerous foreign countries. Winners of the Communicator Awards come from radio stations, production facilities, advertising and public relations agencies, corporate communications departments, technicians, narrators, writers and other professionals associated with the production of audio broadcasters and materials.’
Collegiate Broadcasters Nationals Student Awards
This professional organization is dedicated to serving the needs of collegiate student media programs and their advisors. This competition is held by the nations oldest and largest college media organization. The awards competition includes all forms of radio (LPFM, Cable, Carrier Current, WEB, PA, Cable TV audio, FCC licensed) and TV (broadcast, cable and web.)
