CONCENTRATION IN BROADCAST JOURNALISM (RADIO)

The Broadcast Journalism program (Radio) combines Journalism Department writing courses with Radio Department production courses. To graduate with a concentration in Broadcast Journalism (Radio), students must take the following courses:

THE FOLLOWING MAY BE COUNTED TOWARD THE DEGREE BUT NOT TOWARD THE BROADCAST JOURNALISM MAJOR:
Up to 12 credits in internships for qualified juniors and seniors.
*Radio journalism majors who take both Broadcast Law and Ethics in Broadcasting in the Radio Department may substitute a journalism elective for Media Ethics & Law.
TOTAL CREDITS FOR MAJOR = 48-51
Columbia College requires a minimum of 120 credits to qualify for graduation (124 for students who entered before September 2001). Of these, 42 credits are Liberal Arts & Sciences requirements. The Journalism Department requires 48-51 credits in the major, as outlined above. This leaves 27-30 credits to be earned in courses of the
student’s choice in Journalism (includes internships, independent studies, student publications) or in other departments (25-27 for students who entered before September 2001). Students entering in Fall 2005 must receive a grade of “C� or higher in all courses required for the major. It is highly recommended that Broadcast Journalism majors take additional courses in history, political science, economics, sociology, science, literature and cultural studies. Grammar for Journalists is required for students who score below 80% on the department’s grammar test.
