Brent White (BA '08)

Brent White is the Director of Communications for the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Columbia College Chicago and the Editor of @LAS, the Annual Magazine of the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

White earned his BA in Journalism from Columbia College Chicago in 2008. Prior to joining the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences in January 2010, he was a writer and editor for a large, Web-based restaurant marketing company. Before that, White worked in Columbia's Office of Marketing and Communications (then later the college's Office of Creative Services) as an editorial assistant, where he wrote for, helped publish, and copyedited DEMO magazine, the college's alumni magazine. He also wrote for and helped edit Columbia Online, the college's digital faculty and staff newsletter.

While a student at Columbia, White was an associate editor, and then later managing editor, for the college's student newspaper, the Columbia Chronicle. He also interned with the Chicago Tribune's Editorial Board and with In These Times magazine. He had work published at both internships.

White has also had work published in The Beachwood Reporter, and he’s a former columnist for Ante Up magazine. From 2002-2007, he was a music journalist, critic, and regular contributor to numerous Web and print ’zines, including Decoymusic.com, where he was a senior staff writer and editor, and OregonMusicGuide.com and Crave Music magazine. The latter two have since folded.

Originally from Portland, Oregon, White is freelance writer and editor, an avid traveler and cyclist, and he was a professional musician for nine years. In the fall of 2010, he worked as a grammar tutor in Columbia’s Department of Journalism.
