Assistant Professor of Physics, POS 1178

The Department of Science and Mathematics in the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Columbia College Chicago seeks to fill a tenure-track position in Physics. The department offers a broad science and mathematics curriculum and fosters the integration of science and mathematics with other disciplines.

Candidates must provide evidence of experience and or interest in teaching physics to student non-majors. Candidates must also have experience with an undergraduate physics laboratory setting and the use of classroom demonstrations.

In addition to a strong record of teaching, candidates should demonstrate evidence of scholarly activity and professional development. Faculty members are also expected to participate in School and College service. A Ph.D. in Physics is required. The start date for the position is August 16, 2010.

Assistant Professor of Mathematics, POS 806

The Department of Science and Mathematics at Columbia College Chicago seeks to fill a tenure-track position in Mathematics. The availability of this position is conditional on funding.

The Department offers a broad science and mathematics curriculum for non-majors. The Department seeks candidates with a demonstrated record of teaching excellence and an interest in teaching a variety of mathematics courses. The successful candidate will develop and teach a liberal arts mathematics course. He or she will be expected to be innovative in the curricular and pedagogical design of this course, with a goal of exposing students to intellectually and aesthetically interesting mathematical topics not covered in traditional curricula. Preference for this position will be given to applicants interested in developing and teaching courses that will be part of LAS Core Honors. 

Faculty members are also expected to be active in scholarship and professional development and participate in College and Departmental service.

A Ph.D. in Mathematics or Statistics is required for this position. The start date is August 16, 2010.
