Student Resources

The Television Department has a variety of resources to support its students. Financial support is available through scholarships and paid work-aid positions. Production support is provided through PAF grants.

Networking support comes through your membership in TVAS (Television Arts Society) where we keep students involved with activities such as screenings, video festivals and field trips. Career support and invaluable experience can be gained through internships at networks, production and post-production houses from Chicago to Los Angeles to New York.

There are so many ways to get the most out of Columbia. Along with the countless events, screenings, lectures and exhibits occurring college-wide, the TV Department offers a variety of ways for its majors to get involved to complement their experience in the classroom.

The Portfolio Center brings established professionals from your field on campus to review advanced student portfolios during fall and Spring Review as well as major career events in partnership with the Departments. These programs provide students with an opportunity to practice their presentations, get feedback from professionals and, in some cases, make job contacts. For more information visit their website at www.colum.edu/portfolio/.

Students are encouraged to visit their advisor often to discuss how to prepare for their career. Visit the Advising Center website at www.colum.edu/advising. The Advising Center is a great resource for the following:
  • Columbiaworks online job database
  • Resume and cover letter assistance
  • Library resources for employment
  • Internship information
